Currently, the world is experiencing drastic changes, as Artificial Intelligence manages to weasel its way into daily life. Another drastic change is simultaneously occurring as well: The climbing unemployment rate, especially for new graduates. Both of these evolving events continue to push the importance – almost near necessity – of having a basic understanding of AI. 

"Entry Level" Jobs

Entry level jobs are meant for new graduates in order to help them gain experience in their field and kick start their career. Currently, “35% of jobs labeled "entry-level" require at least three years of experience” (Hamilton 4), essentially changing what the original meaning of an entry level job was. Many graduates are having a difficult time securing a job in their field, remaining unemployed and without a source of income, which is especially worrying in these economically turbulent times.

New Skills/Jobs

With AI becoming more prevalent within all aspects of our daily lives, some jobs are now becoming obsolete, as companies favor machines that can do it faster and cheaper. On the flip side, new jobs will be created, “However, people will need to find their way into these jobs… 75 million to 375 million may need to switch occupational categories and learn new skills” (McKinsey Global Institute 32). Going forward, those who want to work in this ‘new job market’ will have to gain new skills, such as understanding and using artificial intelligence, creativity, and adaptability. By familiarizing yourself with AI, you could be giving yourself a competitive edge when it comes to the future. 

Being More Prepared

Currently, schools do not offer classes on AI, sometimes leaving students feeling unprepared. By joining programs outside of school that focus on AI and Entrepreneurship, you can learn AI and also how to apply it to chart your own path. You can help alleviate some of the stress caused by this sense of uncertainty towards the future.
